Ambition

Ambition is the intense and vehement desire to achieve something difficult. Aristotle says: we praise the ambitious when he has more ambition than the average person, and simultaneously we criticize him when he turns out to be more ambitious than he should. Honor can be coveted more or less than it should be, but it can also be coveted to the limit of convenience, this is praiseworthy.

In the Mandala of Emotions ambition belongs to the family of desires. Ambition and selfishness are two brothers with opposing paths in terms of how to get out of suffering. In ambition the subject goes towards the object, in egoism the object goes towards the subject. The flip side of ambition is possession. In this case ambition becomes insatiable, and the more one has achieved, the more one longs to achieve.

Emotions are in balance or not. This depends on the mode, the occasion and the duration of the emotion. Ambition when balanced leads to success, but when it is excessive or deficient, it leads to failure.

When ambition is too much:

Ambition intoxicates more than glory.

"Do you want to be rich? Well, don't worry about increasing your wealth, but about decreasing your greed.

Few or no time is the ambition fulfilled that is not with third party damage.

The ambitious, to achieve his goal, must lower himself as much as he has tried to raise his sights, and no matter how lofty he is, humble himself to the vilest jobs.

The ambitious is a slave to how much he wants.

The ambitious run day and night in pursuit of honor, constantly agonizing over the success of their plans, fearing the miscalculation that can ruin everything.

Not being greedy is being rich, and not having the habit of buying is an income.

Learn to limit your ambitions, it is a fatal delusion to sigh for what cannot be had.

Blood is only to wash the hands of ambition.

If it were enough for us to be happy, things would be very easy; but we want to be happier than others, and this is almost always impossible, because we believe that others are much happier than they really are.

When ambition is balanced:

The ambition of the heart is pure. It doesn't compete with anyone and it doesn't hurt anyone.

To achieve anything you set your mind to, you need ambition first, then talent, knowledge, and finally opportunity.

Ideals are like stars in the sense that we never reach them, but like sailors, we direct the course of our lives with them.

Remember that you should conduct yourself in life as if you were at a banquet. Has a plate come to you? Extend your hand without ambition, take it modestly.

Don't be too ambitious. Do one thing a year, whatever you think is most important, and your career will take care of itself.
